There is an expression, “Form follows function” that is often used with architecture, product, and sometimes software design. It suggests a single solution. Depending on the software implementation, its target and the way the problem is perceived, among other variables, the internal “form” can be radically altered.
Tic-tac-toe (naughts and crosses) seems to be a fairly simple game. There are three starting moves, nine positions to select from, eight possible combinations to win, so how difficult could it be to program? (If the numbering on the grid is ignored and the grid rotated, there are ony three positions; the corner, edge or center to start)

Most of the time, the first webhost you sign up for, you wind up outgrowing after a year or less. Most people purchasing webhosting don’t know what factors to look for, and even if they do, it’s difficult to tell the seedy companies from the good ones. On top of this, any good website should bring in ever-increasing traffic, which often requires an upgrade.
When you move webhosts, it’s often challenging to understand exactly what the steps are, and what order they should be completed in. Here’s a rough guide, that will hopefully show you have to avoid some of the pitfalls, and minimize any downtime you may have.
7 Easy Steps

Ok so Apple just announced the new 3g iphone. Blah, blah new features, GPS, it’s faster, thicker (that’s what she said), and now replacing the 1.0 iphone. Yep thats right. Apple is no longer selling and manufacturing the 1st version of the iphone. Apple stated 1st gen iphone manufacturing stopped at 6 million. What does this mean right now? No iphones are for sale right now and the new version will be available July 11th.
This time around you will have to purchase and activate IN STORES only. I guess the whole in home activation thing got kind of nuts with the DIYers. I can only imagine how many of those 6 million phones are unlocked and being used overseas. I believe last time I heard AT&T only activated (correct me if I’m wrong) less than half of that number.

Well for all of you wondering if you will be able to unlock this new phone just as easily, the answer is most likely yes. When Apple released the SDK for the firmeware version 2.0 for the iphone the hacking began. Soon the news broke that 2.0 had been unlocked and relocked and unlocked again,
This entry is re-posted from my own blog, but it’s important enough to bear repeating. As Patrick H. says, this ordinance is “Terrifying”:
Tomorrow, the city council votes on an ordinance requiring anyone organizing a concert of any scale, at any (already) licensed venue, to be a licensed promoter. This is very dangerous to Chicago’s rich music scene, and to the arts in Chicago in general.
- The definition of “event promoter” is so loosely defined it could apply to a band that books its own shows or a teenage kid trying to get his favorite band into town.
The “event promoter” must be licensed and will pay $500 – $2000 depending on expected audience size.
- To get the license, applicant must be over 21, get fingerprinted, submit to a background check, and jump over several other hurdles.
- This proposed ordinance seems targeted towards smaller venues, since those with 500+ permanent seats are exempt.
These issues have been tirelessly highlighted by Jim DeRogatis at the Sun Times. There are two interviews that are very much worth reading: Alderman Shulter and the Department of Business Affairs. Please, if you’re in Chicago, sign the “Stop the promoter’s ordinance petition” and contact your alderman. via CYSTSFTS
UPDATE: the ordinance has been put back into committee, to get more input from the community.
